Negombo, being a major city, has good connectivity across the nation. Hatton is a town in Nuwara Eliya district. Hatton is popularly known as the tea capital of Sri Lanka. Both of these places have seen an influence of colonial rule, and thus, there are its traces even today.

Negombo to Hatton by taxi

Visit the nearest local bus stop in Negombo and board a bus that takes you to the main bus terminal in Negombo. You can also take a tuk-tuk as it will be just a 15-minute ride.

    Take the bus 240-AC Columbo Fort to reach the New Kelani Bridge Bus Stop. This will be a ride of half an hour. After you hop off the bus at New Kelani, take a tuk-tuk to reach Orugodawatta Bus Stop or Ceylon Shipping Lines.

    From Ceylon shipping lines, you will have to board the final bus for Hatton Malliapuwa Junction. And after 3 hours, you will be at Hatton. If you think this is confusing, there is another way. Reach Columbo Bastain Bus Terminal from Negombo.

    This will take you around 50 minutes. From the Columbo bus terminal, board the bus for Kegalle for another 2 hours of riding. Once you reach Kegalle, book a taxi for the next 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach Hatton. The overall cost will be approximately LKR 1600.

    The final option is to travel by train. No train will take you directly to Hatton. You will have to interchange at a few stops. First of all, from Negombo, you need to book a taxi or a tuk-tuk to reach Katunayake Airport Bus Station. This will take you around 11 minutes.

    Board a bus from Katunayake Airport Bus Station to reach Colombo Bastian Bus Terminal. It takes 45 minutes only. Once you reach Colombo Bastian Terminal, walk for 9 minutes and reach Fort Station. From here, there are 4 trains a day that depart for Hatton Station.

    The journey will conclude in 4 hours and 50 minutes and will cost anywhere around LKR 500 to LKR 800. If you are okay with spending a lot of time traveling, then you may choose trains. The trains are comfortable but you need to pre-book your tickets.
