Lipton’s Seat
The excellent morning or afternoon trip from Ella is to Lipton’s Seat in Haputale.
Take a tuk-tuk to the beautiful vista above the Lipton tea estate after taking the train to Haputale. This is where Thomas Lipton, a well-known tea grower, would sit and gaze out over his lovely tea fields. It’s also where he sowed the initial seeds of Sri Lanka’s most important export.
When you look down on the endless green tea fields, orderly rows of bushes, and smiling, hard-working people collecting leaves, it’s simple to see why he chose this location.
